Made from ocean plastic and recycled silver.
These earrings are made from recycled sterling silver and hand polished pieces of a plastic bin corner that traveled a long distance through the ocean. They measure 1 1/2" x 3/4" including the recycled sterling silver ear wire. The gems are riveted to the sterling backing with tiny handmade rivets.
They are available in red, pink, orange, yellow, light green, dark green, light blue and dark blue. The color and texture will differ from the list photos, depending on what marine debris is available and due to each gem being hand polished. To order different colors add the desired quantity to your cart and a menu will pop up for color selection.
This metal backing design was inspired by an organism that is sometimes referred to as "lacy crust bryozoan", or Membranipora Membranacea. This organism is often found on marine debris that washes up here in Hawai'i, as pictured to the left. Lacy crust bryozoan is native to the north pacific coastline from AK to northern CA. This organism is considered an invasive species where it doesn't belong, and can negatively impact the life cycle of seaweed.
